Dear Governor Jerry Brown,
No, we will not pass a new tax even if it is on the wealthy. We are already the highest taxes in the country, PLUS the wealthy might go somewhere else, which is the unintended consequence that everyone seems to be oblivious to in politics.
But that doesn’t matter to you, you want increased taxes to fund a train to nowhere, that no one will ride, in the name of “progress”. I really think you want to seal this as your “legacy” you gave to California.
If we don’t pass your new tax, you will automatically cut 5.5 billion to schools. How does this make sense? You won’t even touch public pension and health benefits that will bury this state in a tidal wave. Why do you think all these municipal bankruptcies are happening? They have unfunded liabilities!
Forbes magazine for the 8th year in a row has pegged CA as the WORST state for business! Maybe, I don’t know, that’s why you have no revenue coming in – other than the economy in general.
So until you deal with the REAL problems with this state, you will get no new taxes from me or my family. We might even move out of state just to keep SOME income so we can change our family tree, as Dave Ramsey says.
Here is a tip, ditch the Browndoggle, reform public salaries, pensions, and benefits. Repeal the global warming act courtesy of the Governator, reform business regulations and lower taxes and you MIGHT see the “Golden State” come back.
